Small Business Optimism is Running High

A report released in mid-December found the HFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose eight points. The growth in November moved to 101.7, after 34 months below the 50-year average of 98, which is something to celebrate. Additionally, nine of the ten Optimism Index components increased with only one staying unchanged.

Small Business Optimism

NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg attributed the surge in optimism among small business owners to a major shift in economic policy as a result of the election. This was shown in expectations for improvements in the economy that rose 41 points from October, according to the report. The net 35% score was the highest since June 2020.

“Main Street also became more certain about future business conditions following the election, breaking a nearly three-year streak of record high uncertainty,” he continued. “Owners are particularly hopeful for tax and regulation policies that favor strong economic growth as well as relief from inflationary pressures. In addition, small business owners are eager to expand their operations.”

Small but Mighty Opportunities

As a small business, Staffing Kansas City is part of a strong local network of businesses – including the solopreneurs and mom-and-pop establishments to franchises and family businesses. Often considered to be the backbone of America, these business owners share a common thread of recognizing a need or lack and creating a business to fill that void.

Trends Shaping Small Business in 2025

In November 2024, the U.S. Small Business Administration published its list of trends that will shape small businesses in 2025. Not surprisingly, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and customer experience made the list in both 2024 and 2025.

  • Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) – Businesses of all sizes continue to explore if AI can increase productivity within the workforce. 53% of small businesses use chatbots and virtual assistants powered by AI.
  • E-Commerce – The desire for omnichannel experiences extends to small and medium-sized businesses with more growth expected in E-commerce.
  • Customer Experience – Creating a positive customer experience is more important than ever. To do this successfully, a business must meet the customer where they are now.
  • Online Marketing – Without online promotion, your business and its services may not reach as many customers as you may hope. Websites and social media can help build awareness for the brand and create a following.
  • Cybersecurity – With more information entrusted to the cloud, businesses must keep internal and external data always secure.
