Talent acquisition (TA) teams may be feeling like they are trying to swim upstream. A 2024 Hiring Insights Report of 525 talent acquisition leaders from GoodTime found TA teams struggling with hiring and talent retention. The myriad of challenges in the market found only 51.3% of talent acquisition staff hit their hiring goals in the last 12 months. This is despite 99% currently employing artificial intelligence (AI) and automation.
Talent staff say they spend more than a third of their time (35%) scheduling interviews. 27% called out a lack of qualified talent, and 44% cite increasing competition with other companies for talent. Talent retention is also a top challenge (34%), particularly with the growing number of layoffs and the proliferation of viral videos sharing firings and layoffs in real time.
Companies with layoffs in 2023 were more likely to report fair or poor engagement from their employees, according to the report. Return to office initiatives are also creating added turmoil with employees pushing back on such a return. In some cases, companies starting all-or-nothing policies are finding the need to compromise with employees through more flexible work policies.
Those surveyed cited being:
- 40% more likely to focus on upgrading hiring technology.
- 24% more likely to prioritize candidate experience improvements.
- 23% more likely to invest in improving overall efficiency.
- 24% plan to deprioritize DEI as a focus area.
